As expected, the cannabis business has started to grow in the Gainesville area since Governor Rick Scott signed Amendment 2 on June 23. However, according to the Gainesville Sun, the number of certified physicians is still small at just 11. As more doctors take the 2-hour course to get certified, the number of recommending doctors will increase.
The law governing medical marijuana signed by Scott expanded the types of conditions that can be treated with medical marijuana with THC to include amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease), cancer, Crohn’s disease, epilepsy, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis, chronic nonmalignant pain and terminal illnesses.
