Of course, the idea of using medical marijuana for a humans ailments is becoming an everyday subject in Florida. But what about using it on your sick animals? There are many vets in Florida who think it’s a great idea, especially when it comes to replacing the traditional pharmaceuticals that are typically used for when an animal gets ill. In some cases medicines have chemicals in them that are hard for your pet to break down, resulting in stomach aches or even kidney damage. With all-natural cannabis products, pets can absorb it so much easier.
Some of the examples cited from pet owners include a pug who has lost the use of its limbs due to arthritis. The owner gave the pug edibles with CBD in them and was amazed at how effective it was at relieving his pain, making him more active. There is also the anxious pit bull who would freak out during a rainstorm was given medical marijuana products and immediately calmed down and started playing with her toys. What about the beagle who was battling cancer for the second time. Her owner gave her cannabis oil and it literally brought her back from the brink of death.
All of the products given to animals are CBD form, so there is nothing to make the animals “high” in any way. There is also zero risk of them getting addicted in any form. Though these owners are adamant that there are no downsides to their beloved pets receiving this kind of treatment, cannabis products for animals haven’t officially been regulated in any of the 29 states that allow for legal medical marijuana, including Florida. Additionally, veterinarians aren’t allowed to write a prescription for getting the pot in the first place. Really the only thing they can legally do is recommend it’s usage to the owners, and if they happen to have access to cannabis through the Florida dispensaries, even better.
Maybe approving cannabis use in pets in next for Florida? After all, it makes sense. Pet owners love them just like family, and no one in their right mind would allow for a family member to suffer if there was an easy problem to fix using natural medical marijuana. Perhaps in the new year, this topic will be broached with Florida’s legislation more seriously.
