Cannabis becomes legal in Michigan; When will it become available?
On Thursday, December 6th, Michigan became the latest state to officially legalize the recreational use of cannabis for adult possession and use, but not commercial sales. Unfortunately for vendors and businesses, commercial sales is not expected to be allowed until 2020. Until then, all the companies can do is position themselves in anticipation.
For now, the state will have to address a few issues that stand in the way of a legal recreational cannabis market. One issue is that the state will need to address the regulatory structure regarding the current medical marijuana market. The other issue is a lack of restrictions on the number of licenses that can be given out to businesses, while communities will have the ability to completely opt-out of marijuana sales altogether.
