What’s happened in the Medical Marijuana Industry?

Recreational Marijuana

Recreational Marijuana- Organizers of a petition had hoped to get the necessary signatures to get recreational pot on the ballot for 2018. Unfortunately, they fell short and are now looking towards 2020.

The people have spoken: They want to smoke weed. In a recent nationwide Gallup Poll, 64 percent of respondents said the use of marijuana should be legalized. That’s the highest response rate in favor of the legalization Gallup has recorded since 1969. And do you know how many people smoked pot in 1969?

But unfortunately, Floridians will have to wait for their chance to join the nine other states, as well as the District of Columbia, that have legalized recreational weed. Advocates hoped to nab 766,000 signatures by February 1 to get full marijuana legalization on November’s ballot, but the organizers tell New Times they came up well short of that goal.

Implementation of Medical Marijuana

The State froze the salaries of Department of Health officials because until Amendment 2, legalizing medical marijuana more broadly has been fully implemented.

Florida lawmakers want to hold the top Department of Health officials’ paychecks until the department fully implements the voter-approved medical marijuana amendment.

The department has missed multiple deadlines and has failed to keep up with a backlog of applicants.

More than 20,000 patients qualified to receive medical marijuana have yet to be issued ID cards.

Lawmakers said that, until the Department of Health clears the backlog, top brass won’t get paid.

“The Legislature has done everything in their power to get them access to this, and it’s the agency who’s supposed to implement it that’s been dragging their feet,” Rep. Jason Brodeur said.

The proposal would hold $1.9 million in salaries and benefits in next year’s budget.

Telehealth and Medical Marijuana?

Unfortunately, not.  However, Telehealth is gaining acceptance and usage due to the efficiencies for both patients and physicians.  More services are being approved, but not medical marijuana exams.
