8/25/20 - Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN) tweeted, "As more states legalize marijuana, we’ve got to address and dismantle the racist war on drugs that put thousands of Black & Brown Americans in jail. I’ve introduced legislation to federally legalize marijuana and take a step forward in doing just that." Also, Members of the White Earth Nation tribe, located in Minnesota, approved a medical cannabis measure.
8/18/20 - The Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party filed a complaint with the Federal Elections Commission calling out a Legal Marijuana Now Party candidate for allegedly failing to file campaign finance reports.
8/10/20 - Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN) took to the Senate floor to make the case that legalizing marijuana must be a part of police reform and racial justice efforts, and to discuss her new bill that would federally regulate cannabis like tobacco. “It is time to legalize marijuana, and we should do it in a practical and commonsense way that protects the health and safety and the civil rights of our communities.”
8/3/20 - Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN) filed a bill to federally legalize marijuana and regulate it like tobacco. U.S. Customs and Border Protection would be tasked with developing rules for cannabis imports and exports, and there would be a federal purchasing age limit of 21.
7/29/20 - Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura (I) tweeted, "Not that I would vote for a Democrat, but can someone explain the party platform? Turns out they’re actually anti-marijuana when #cannabis is LEGAL in over half the country."
5/19/20 - Minnesota’s House of Representatives approved a bill on Saturday to finally allow medical cannabis patients to access whole-plant flower, instead of just extracts. But on Sunday, the Senate killed it.
