Minnesota - Qualifying Conditions:

    • cachexia or

  • Glaucoma
  • Tourette Syndrome
  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
  • Seizures, including those characteristic of Epilepsy
  • Severe and persistent muscle spasms, including those characteristic of Multiple Sclerosis.
  • Inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease
  • Terminal illness, with a probable life expectancy of less than one year*
  • Intractable pain
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Autism
  • Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Patients can be certified beginning on July 1, 2019:

*To qualify for the program, you must suffer from cancer or a terminal illness with a probable life expectancy of under one year, if your illness or its treatment produces one or more of the following: severe or chronic pain; nausea or severe vomiting; or Cachexia or severe wasting.

11/9/20 - Minnesota’s two marijuana-focused political parties may have helped tip key races toward Republicans, thereby hurting the chances of legal cannabis legislation in the state in 2021.

10/30/20 - Minnesota's Medical Cannabis Review panel will issue reports on adding new qualifying conditions on Monday.

9/29/20 - Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN) filed a federal lawsuit seeking to overturn the state's cancellation of the November election for her seat that was triggered by the death of the Legalize Marijuana Now Party's candidate.

9/25/20 - The death of Minnesota Legal Marijuana Now Party congressional candidate Adam Weeks means that a special election for the seat will have to be held in February and that no results from Election Day in November will be reported.

9/1/20 - Minnesota regulators are accepting public comments on adding anxiety, sickle cell disease and tic disorder as medical cannabis qualifying conditions.

8/25/20 - Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN) tweeted, "As more states legalize marijuana, we’ve got to address and dismantle the racist war on drugs that put thousands of Black & Brown Americans in jail. I’ve introduced legislation to federally legalize marijuana and take a step forward in doing just that."  Also, Members of the White Earth Nation tribe, located in Minnesota, approved a medical cannabis measure.

8/18/20 - The Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party filed a complaint with the Federal Elections Commission calling out a Legal Marijuana Now Party candidate for allegedly failing to file campaign finance reports. 

8/10/20 - Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN) took to the Senate floor to make the case that legalizing marijuana must be a part of police reform and racial justice efforts, and to discuss her new bill that would federally regulate cannabis like tobacco.  “It is time to legalize marijuana, and we should do it in a practical and commonsense way that protects the health and safety and the civil rights of our communities.”

8/3/20 - Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN) filed a bill to federally legalize marijuana and regulate it like tobacco. U.S. Customs and Border Protection would be tasked with  developing rules for cannabis imports and exports, and there would be a federal purchasing age limit of 21. 

7/29/20 - Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura (I) tweeted, "Not that I would vote for a Democrat, but can someone explain the party platform? Turns out they’re actually anti-marijuana when #cannabis is LEGAL in over half the country."

7/23/20 - The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is partnering with the University of Minnesota on a survey about hemp.

6/18/20 - The Minnesota House Ways and Means Committee held a hearing on a bill to extend the ability of doctors to issue medical cannabis recommendations via telehealth.

5/29/20 - Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) signed a bill outlining inspection processes for medical cannabis businesses.

5/22/20 - Members of the Red Lake Nation, located in Minnesota, approved a medical cannabis referendum.

5/19/20 - Minnesota’s House of Representatives approved a bill on Saturday to finally allow medical cannabis patients to access whole-plant flower, instead of just extracts. But on Sunday, the Senate killed it. 

5/18/20 - Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) signed a bill revising hemp regulations.

5/14/20 - The Minnesota House of Representatives approved an agriculture bill that classifies hemp licensee and applicant data as private.

5/7/20 - The Minnesota House Health and Human Services Policy Committee approved a health bill that contains provisions amending medical cannabis regulations.

4/9/20 - Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) issued an extended coronavirus stay-at-home order that exempts medical cannabis businesses and CBD oil shops as essential.

4/1/20 - Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) signed an executive order authorizing curbside pickup of medical cannabis, allowing doctors to issue recommendations via telemedicine, extending patient certification expirations and allowing temporary caregivers amid the coronavirus outbreak.
