Marijuana Strain Descriptions

Blueberry
Cannabis Strain Summary
Terpene Profile- Primary
Myrcene (dominant; provides berry sweetness and sedative muscle-relaxing properties)
Terpene Profile- Secondary
Beta-caryophyllene (spice/pepper notes, CB2 receptor binding); Alpha-pinene (fresh pine/rosemary brightness); Beta-pinene (crisp mint/eucalyptus); Linalool (floral lavender creaminess); Humulene (earthy woody depth); Nerolidol (citrus-floral complexity). Total terpene content typically 1.5-3% in well-grown flower.
The Experience- Common Effects
Happiness and contentment without excessive mental stimulation; physical relaxation dominates; stress relief; muscle tension reduction; enhanced sensory appreciation (food, music, touch); mood elevation. Higher doses (especially above 20% THC) produce deep couch-lock, heavy eyelids, powerful sedation transitioning to restorative sleep.
The Experience- Duration
Peak arrives 30-45 minutes post-consumption; sustains 2-3 hours for most users. Known for exceptional duration (longer persistence than many comparable-potency strains). Edibles extend to 6-8 hours with peak at 2-3 hours.
The Experience- Onset
Effects announce within 5-10 minutes (smoked/vaporized). Initial gentle cerebral warming behind eyes builds into mild euphoria and mood enhancement, occasionally with increased sociability or creative thinking. Physical relaxation intensifies within 15-20 minutes, settling through shoulders and neck before radiating outward as gradual, inviting heaviness rather than abrupt shutdown.
The Experience- Potential Side Effects
Dry mouth; Dry eyes; Occasional dizziness; Mild headaches (particularly at higher doses or when dehydrated); Potential anxiety or paranoia in THC-sensitive individuals at high doses
Strain Type
Indica-Dominant Hybrid
Not Recommended For
Professional settings; Tasks requiring critical thinking or rapid response; Operating vehicles or machinery; Situations requiring sustained energy and focus; Physical activity beyond gentle movement
Lineage and Origins
Created by DJ Short in the late 1970s from crosses between Highland Thai or Purple Thai (sativa females) and Afghani indica (male). Purple Thai is a first-generation Oregon hybrid of Highland Oaxaca Gold and Chocolate Thai. DJ Short reversed typical breeding approaches by using sativa mothers with indica males to preserve complexity while improving structure. Spread globally through Dutch seed companies in the 1990s.
Cannabanoid Profile
THC: 16-24% (moderate to high potency); CBD: 0.1-0.5% (minimal); Minor cannabinoids like CBG or CBN may be present in trace amounts. THC-forward experience with trace CBD contributing to entourage effect. Higher CBN levels in longer-cured flower may enhance sedative properties.
Comparable Strains
Blue Dream (direct descendant Blueberry x Haze; more energizing sativa-dominant; better for daytime); Blue Cheese (Blueberry x UK Cheese; funky savory cheese flavors; more cerebral and social); Northern Lights (similar indica relaxation and resin; earthier less fruity; faster flowering; classic couch-lock); Purple Kush (comparable purple coloration and sedation; less sweet more hashy/earthy; deeper sedation); Granddaddy Purple (berry-grape flavors and colorful appearance; grape rather than blueberry; heavier body effects; shorter flowering)

Cultivation Resilience
Tolerates nutrients well but prefers organic over heavy synthetic feeding; Susceptible to powdery mildew and bud rot due to dense buds (requires excellent airflow and humidity below 50% during flowering); Regular inspection needed; Nitrogen-rich fertilizer during early vegetative growth; Phosphorus/potassium focus during flowering; Soil pH 6.0-6.5 optimal
Cultivation Flowering Time
7-9 weeks (45-60 days); Most phenotypes harvest around 50-60 days; Some early finishers at 45 days under ideal conditions
Cultivation Yield
Above-average to high yields under optimal conditions; Indoor: approximately 15-18 ounces per square meter; Outdoor: 25+ ounces per plant in ideal conditions. Bushy shape and proper training (topping, LST, pruning) increases yield potential.
Cultivation Plant Structure
Medium-tall with 'stretch indica' pattern; Moderately compact core with longer side branches developing heavy trichome-laden colas. Height: 3-4 feet indoors without training, 5-6 feet outdoors. Broad dark green leaves (indica-dominant); narrower foliage in sativa-leaning phenotypes. Dense bud structure with medium-to-large calyxes.
Cultivation Quality Indicators
Dense, resinous buds with visible trichome coverage creating frosted appearance; Pronounced blue-to-lavender hues (in properly cooled phenotypes); Vibrant orange pistils; Unmistakable blueberry aroma (sweet, complex, with floral and earthy undertones); Medium-to-large teardrop-shaped calyxes; Dense but not rock-hard structure with slight give indicating proper moisture; Authentic DJ Short genetics emit powerful sweet blueberry scent even during vegetative growth (floral-berry-earthen-hash profile)
