8/3/20 - Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) said he thinks decisions about marijuana should be made at the state level.

7/29/20 - North Carolina Democratic agriculture commissioner candidate Jenna Wadsworth tweeted, "Cannabis legalization in NC will benefit farmers & rural tourism, generate tax 💵 for public education, & combat an opioid epidemic. Plus, it holds the promise of social justice for communities of color through decriminalization & dismissal of past misdemeanor possession charges."

7/27/20 - The Durham, North Carolina Racial Equity Task Force recommended decriminalizing marijuana. 

6/22/20 - North Carolina Democratic agriculture commissioner candidate Jenna Wadsworth tweeted, "Marijuana is legal in at least 33 states plus DC. It’s ridiculous we’re sending people to prison in NC for something that’s legal in a preponderance of states, and then those same prisoners are at a higher risk for COVID contraction. Decriminalize it. Legalize it. Call it a day."

6/12/20 - North Carolina regulators added hemp to a registry of crops protected from improper herbicide or pesticide contact.

6/5/20 - North Carolina lawmakers sent Gov. Roy Cooper (D) a farm bill with controversial hemp provisions removed from an initial version.

6/4/20 - The North Carolina House of Representatives approved a revised agriculture bill with controversial smokable hemp ban language removed.

6/1/20 - North Carolina Democratic agriculture commissioner candidate Jenna Wadsworth tweeted, "Decriminalize marijuana. Dismiss past misdemeanor possession charges. Free people from a broken, overcrowded, & sometimes corrupt prison system. Combat the school to prison pipeline. Alleviate an overburdened court system from unnecessary possession cases.
