Can you bring cannabis to O'Hare?

Cannabis is not allowed on airport property and cannot be carried on a flight, which falls under federal law. Buy after you land, and use or leave it behind before you fly home.

Visiting O'Hare

O'Hare sits on the far northwest side of Chicago, and the nearest dispensaries are in the suburbs and city neighborhoods around it rather than at the airport, a short drive from the terminals, which suits visitors staying near the airport for a convention or heading into the city.

The deals below come from stores within about eight miles of the terminals and are refreshed daily. Illinois sells to adults 21 and over with a valid ID, and visitors from out of state can buy too, though in smaller amounts than residents. Illinois law stops dispensary sales at 10 p.m., so if your flight lands late, plan to shop the next day. Before your flight home, use or leave what you bought: cannabis cannot go through security or onto a plane, and taking it into another state is illegal.

Getting there

  • The Blue Line runs from O'Hare into downtown Chicago, passing Rosemont and the Northwest Side on the way.
  • Hotels and the convention center in Rosemont are minutes from the airport.
  • Keep purchases sealed and out of reach while driving. Open cannabis in a vehicle is illegal in Illinois.
  • Do not bring anything back to the airport for your return flight.
