Our story

Black Buddha Cannabis was born from founder Roz McCarthy's personal journey of healing and advocacy. McCarthy, a 30+ year healthcare veteran and CEO of Minorities for Medical Marijuana (M4MM), launched the brand in 2022 after a traumatic brain injury transformed her relationship with cannabis. During her recovery, cannabis literally saved her life, combined with meditation, therapy, and daily mantras. The brand made its official debut in February 2022, with actor Malik Yoba joining as Chief Strategy Officer. In October 2022, Black Buddha launched in Massachusetts through a partnership with TILT Holdings, expanding their reach beyond Ohio where they first established operations. Most recently, in October 2024, they secured a major partnership with Trulieve to launch premium flower products in Arizona and Pennsylvania.M4MM, McCarthy's nonprofit organization, has provided over 10,000 hours of outreach, training, and education to underserved communities, establishing the foundation for Black Buddha's equity-driven mission. From a personal healing journey to multi-state expansion, Black Buddha represents the power of purpose-driven cannabis entrepreneurship.
