Gainesville Gets A New Medical Marijuana Testing Lab

The currently under construction laboratory is slated to open in April or early May in Gainesville to comply with Florida senate bill 8A which requires all of the companies within the state that have a cannabis grow license to have their product checked out by a third party. That third party is EVIO Labs, which serves to conduct test on all cannabis products that come through their facility for a variety of substances that can harm humans. And seeing that the whole point of having legal medical marijuana is to help patients feel better, any harmful additives would be more than counterproductive.

EVIO Labs is based out of Oregon and has since opened several testing facilities throughout the US in California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Oregon, and now Florida.

Lab employees will test small samples of batches for things like heavy metals, pesticides, E. coli, containments, fungi, and the THC levels. Depending on their findings the lab will approve or disapprove the product for sale.

The city of Gainesville has been incredibly accepting of the cannabis movement and up until now hasn’t had any sort of medical testing facility. This expansion opens up the possibility for Gainesville to expand their options in terms of grow centers and dispensaries. In addition, through there was a bill passed requiring testing of all marijuana products, not every company has latched on quite yet. As the business grows and grows, the regulatory requirements will be more strictly enforced, which makes it a good move for the Gainesville locations owners in that they may be getting a large amount of business in the coming months.

While the cannabis industry in Florida is continuing to bloom, and the patient demand grows, it’s more important than ever that they product consumers are receiving is free and clear of anything that could be potentially detrimental to one’s health, which makes labs like EVIO’s so valuable.
