Also, Oregon retailers sold more than $1 billion worth of legal marijuana in 2020.

12/21/20 – Oregon regulators banned two ingredients from being used as additives in marijuana vaping products and approved rules that require businesses to provide more transparent disclosure about the ingredients they are using.

12/14/20 – Oregon regulators announced a recall of marijuana products due to potentially dangerous additives.

11/10/20 – Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) tweeted, “Successful ballot propositions point to the many areas that unite Americans rather than divide us, especially on cannabis. As we enter a difficult period of transition and healing, government action should capitalize on these critical and unifying issues.”

11/9/20 – Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) tweeted, “America is ready for progress on cannabis. We’ve seen states move to decriminalize or legalize cannabis, even as federal laws have stayed the same. It’s time for the SAFE Banking Act so small businesses in the cannabis industry can access banking like any other business.”

11/3/20 – Oregon voters made their state the first in the nation to decriminalize possession of all drugs. The ballot measure they approved also uses existing marijuana tax revenue to fund expanded treatment services. Oregon voters also approved a first-of-its-kind measure to legalize psilocybin therapy. 

9/28/20 – Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) tweeted, “Hemp holds so much potential for Oregon. Glad that OSU was able to receive this NIFA grant to move their program and our state forward. I’ll keep fighting for the federal support they need.”

9/25/20 – Sens. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Reps. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) and Peter DeFazio (D-OR) filed companion bills to make marijuana businesses harmed by recent wildfires and other disasters eligible to receive federal relief funds on a retroactive basis.

Also, A report from the Oregon  Office of Economic Analysis shows how marijuana sales during the coronavirus pandemic are way higher than previous projections and says that “expectations are that some of these increases will be permanent.”  “Factors leading to increases in sales include higher incomes due to federal support, increased stressors in everyday life, reductions in other forms of entertainment or recreational opportunities, and simply more time on one’s hand be it due to a COVID-related layoff, or increased working from home.”

9/23/20 – Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) spoke about the need to reform marijuana laws in a House floor speech.

9/16/20 – Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) tweeted, “It’s past time for Congress to bring our country’s harmful and outdated marijuana laws into the 21st century. Senate Democrats are committed to doing just that.”  Also, Oregon regulators released an updated list of approved pesticides for cannabis.

9/15/20 – Oregon regulators published guidance on medical cannabis caregiver issues.

9/14/20 – Oregon regulators approved permanent rules for marijuana curbside delivery

9/11/20 – Oregon regulators published guidance for marijuana businesses affected by natural disasters.

9/1/20 – Marijuana sales in Oregon are sharply up during the coronavirus pandemic, with July being the third month in a row that totals exceeded $100 million. 

8/31/20 – Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) criticized the Food and Drug Administration for undermining the CBD industry.

8/24/20 – Oregon Gov. Kate Brown’s (D) Vaping Public Health Work Group recommended requiring ingredient disclosure for cannabis vaping products, regulating CBD products and creating a state lab to conduct audit testing of marijuana products.

8/19/20 – Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) said that presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s platform of decriminalizing marijuana possession is “essentially meaningless” and that he needs to back full cannabis legalization instead.

8/7/20 – Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) tweeted, “With the addition of @RepKatiePorter, our bill to legalize marijuana and enact restorative justice now has 80 House co-sponsors! Momentum is growing to end the failed prohibition of cannabis that has ruined countless lives and disproportionately impacted communities of color.”

8/6/20 – Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) tweeted, “As we work to ultimately end the senseless prohibition of cannabis and the failed war on drugs, we must ensure the protection of legal state and tribal cannabis programs. Last week, the House passed my bill to do just that. The Senate must do the same.”

7/30/20 – Sens. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Jeff Merkley (D-OR) sent a letter calling on the U.S. Department of Agriculture to change several restrictive hemp regulations. They say that despite the temporary suspension of a rule allowing only labs certified by the Drug Enforcement Administration to do THC testing, USDA’s site still lists only those facilities.  “This signals that there is no intent to remove this unnecessary requirement in the final rules.”

7/29/20 – Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) spoke about racial disparities in marijuana enforcement in a House floor speech.

7/28/20 – Oregon state officials are estimating that a drug decriminalization and treatment expansion measure on the November ballot will reduce racial disparities in the criminal justice system and save the state money if voters approve it. 

7/24/20 – Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) expressed frustration on the Senate floor about not being able to get a vote on marijuana banking legislation, saying, “How about we have a banking system that serves the cannabis industry so that we don’t have huge bags of money opened up to the possibility of organized crime moving it around the country and doing bad things? We should extend that coverage, but we can’t get that vote on this floor.”  Also, Oregon regulators released an updated list of approved marijuana businesses.

7/23/20 – Oregon regulators proposed rules to ban processed non-cannabis additives from being added to inhalable marijuana products, and are holding advisory committee meetings about the draft.

7/2/20 – Oregon’s secretary of state announced that activists officially collected enough signatures to put a measure decriminalizing drug possession and using marijuana tax revenue to fund expanded treatment services on the November ballot. 

6/23/20 – Oregon regulators took steps to extend marijuana curbside pickup and to ban non-cannabis additives from inhalable cannabis products.

6/18/20 – The Portland, Oregon City Council finalized a budget that strips marijuana tax revenue from the police department.

6/15/20 – The Portland, Oregon City Council voted to take marijuana tax revenue away from the police department. 

6/12/20 – Oregon regulators released an updated list of pesticides approved for use on marijuana plants.

4/15/20 – Oregon Democratic congressional candidate Albert Lee tweeted, “Legalize cannabis banking access. Legalize cannabis nationwide. Stop the senseless waste of resources on attempts to control personal health & liberties. Expunge marijuana records. End the War on Drugs. Make families & lives whole again.”

4/9/20 – Oregon regulators are allowing marijuana businesses to accept expired in-state driver licenses or identification cards during the coronavirus outbreak.

3/30/20 – Oregon generated more than $9.2 million in marijuana tax revenue for the state and an additional more than $1.4 million for local governments in February. 

3/25/20 – Oregon marijuana businesses are allowed to stay open under Gov. Kate Brown’s (D) coronavirus stay-at-home order. Meanwhile, regulators published a FAQ on coronavirus-related issues for cannabis businesses.
