  • severe or chronic pain,

  • seizures,
  • severe or persistent muscle spasms,
  • glaucoma,
  • post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD),
  • or another chronic medical condition which is severe and for which other treatments have been ineffective.

11/10/20 - House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) announced that the body will hold a floor vote on a bill to federally legalize marijuana and fund programs to repair the harms of the war on drugs in December. This comes after Democrats planned and then cancelled a September vote on the cannabis proposal.

9/29/20 - Maryland Democratic congressional candidate Mia Mason is hosting a series of four webinars to discuss marijuana reform issues.

9/28/20 - Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) and Democratic challenger Mia Mason spoke about their differing views on marijuana policy.

9/21/20 - A case challenging Maryland regulators' medical cannabis decisions was dismissed by a federal judge.

9/16/20 - The office of House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) told Marijuana Moment the “schedule hasn’t changed" for a planned vote on a federal marijuana legalization bill next week despite rumblings of concern from moderate Democrats. Hoyer himself said, though, that while he supports the proposal, "we’ve got to get the CR and COVID-19 done, because they’re absolutely critical to the welfare of our country,” referring to legislation to keep the government funded and avoid a shutdown.

9/1/20 - House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) confirmed the timing of an upcoming historic vote to federally legalize marijuana. The MORE Act, which will deschedule cannabis and fund programs to repair the harms of the war on drugs, will hit the House floor the week of September 21—about three weeks from now. 

8/25/20 - New Maryland medical cannabis business security rules come into effect on September 1, 2020.

8/24/20 - Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) tweeted, "Any talk of legalizing recreational marijuana is a bad idea, especially in the midst of an opioid abuse and addiction crisis, worsened by COVID."

8/18/20 - Maryland Democratic congressional candidate Mia Mason tweeted, "Cannabis should be legal in the USA, full stop. Four years of Trump has proven that. Our farmers are looking for something profitable to grow, might as well make it legal."

8/10/20 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture approved hemp plans for Maryland and another Indian tribe, bringing the total number of approved plans across states, territories and tribes to 55. 

7/30/20 - A former Maryland delegate who pleaded guilty to soliciting and accepting bribes from medical cannabis companies was sentenced to two years in federal prison.

7/29/20 - The Maryland Court of Appeals ruled that the smell of marijuana, on its own, does not give police probable cause for a search.

7/27/20 - Federal prosecutors are seeking a three-year prison sentence for a former Maryland delegate who pleaded guilty to soliciting and accepting bribes from medical cannabis businesses.
